Vandaag restaurant in the E. Village, NYC succeeded in creating maximum openness and simplicity without becoming too spare or cold. This was achieved through careful manipulation of scale, color, and materiality. Dutch and other Northern European modernist references combine with a local sensibility (as does the cuisine) in a style that we'd call vintage modernism. Custom designed elements like light fixtures and tables and the new stair seem to be of that period, while our new storefront is more boldly Now.
