Sunken LR Solution

This project in Chelsea featured a great solution to the often maligned sunken living room with parquet flooring,  that is typical of NYC apartment bldgs in mid century.    most clients rip out the original parquet and start over,  but budget suggested a different solution here.  

With enough sanding the original white oak tone was revealed and a new dead matte sealant kept it natural looking and pretty nice.   we replaced the horrible original steps down with a modern continuous step of gloss blackened bent steel, that also wraps the other side of room.  Clients sculpture was  highlighted as part of the gesture..... and this "detractor moment" in the apt. became the star!
